Rodeo Rocket Designer Spotlight #1

Courtney Kearney, CPSM

Owner | CKearney Consulting, LLC

Brief Company Description

CKearney Consulting (CKC) is a small, woman-owned business based in the DFW area providing companies and individuals with high-quality marketing services with an emphasis on CRM. CKC can get you in gear and put your marketing in motion!

How long have you been in the marketing/design industry?

I have been in the industry since 2006.

What is your top marketing tip?

Learn as much as you can and never stop pursuing growth.

What was your favorite part about designing a logo for Rodeo Rocket?

I loved the challenge to illustrate our chapter's unique style of southern friendliness.

What lead you to pursue a career in marketing?

In school, I first studied engineering but learned I was most satisfied communicating for technical people rather than being the technical person. So I guess you could say I've pursued the AEC marketing career most of my life and just didn't know it at the time.

What is your personal/professional goal for this year?

My goal is to rock it as President of the 2017-2018 board and lead this chapter in the pursuit to best serve our awesome members.

What is a fun fact about you or a hobby you enjoy?

The love for the A/E/C industry entered my blood at a young age. My father was a PM for a construction company and I loved going to the jobsites with him. I couldn't wait to join the industry so I started interning with that company from the young age of 14 and went back every summer until I left for college.

What are you most looking forward to in 2017?

Celebrating the one year anniversary of my new business!

Rodeo Rocket Designer Spotlight #2

Cindy Zavaleta

Marketing Assistant | Baird, Hampton and Brown, Inc.

Brief Company Description

Baird, Hampton and Brown, Inc. (BHB) is an engineering and surveying firm that offers multi-disciplinary services consisting of land surveying, landscape architecture, civil engineering and site development, MEP engineering and design, and construction administration.

How long have you been in the marketing/design industry?

I just graduated from the University of Arkansas in May, so I’m very new to the marketing industry. However, I have held many internships throughout my four years in college.

What is your top marketing tip?

My top marketing tip would be to make connections and keep them. Whether they are in your industry or not. You never know who their connections are.

What was your favorite part about designing a logo for Rodeo Rocket?

My favorite part was choosing what hat would best fit the horse jockey. The goal was to keep Rodeo Rocket simple and not stray too far from its original design, but at the same time incorporate both Fort Worth and the Kentucky Derby.

What lead you to pursue a career in marketing?

I enjoy writing, advertising, public relations, social media, and doing graphic design work. Marketing incorporates these among many other things.

What is your personal/professional goal for this year?

My professional goal for this year is to learn and become more familiar with the A/E/C industry.

What is a fun fact about you or a hobby you enjoy?

A fun fact about me is that I’m the graphic designer for a new fitness clothing brand.

What are you most looking forward to in 2017?

I am really excited about moving into my new place, this April, and begin decorating it.

RODEO ROCKET DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT #3 - Winner!

Gloria Moss

Marketing Coordinator | Joeris General Contractors, Ltd.

Brief Company Description

Joeris General Contractors was founded in 1976 by Leo Joeris who laid the foundation of the firm with one simple principle: first build trust. More than 50 years and hundreds of successful projects later, we’ve proven that our founding principal still resonates with our communities and clients today.

How long have you been in the marketing/design industry?

I have been in the industry for almost 4 years.

What is your top marketing tip?

When you get stuck on project, take a step back and work on something else for a while. Nine out of ten times focusing on something else will help your brain work the problem out.

What was your favorite part about designing a logo for Rodeo Rocket?

I always love the opportunity to do something a little creative, especially when the design will be used to help promote an organization I’m so involved in.

What lead you to pursue a career in marketing?

I’ve always wanted a career with some element of creativity and four years ago when I applied to Joeris it was because the job was a perfect fit for what I wanted to do.

What is your personal/professional goal for this year?

One of my goals for this year is to continue to grow and develop my design skills.

What is a fun fact about you or a hobby you enjoy?

I have a small obsession with books, any and all books. I love books the way most people love chocolate!

What are you most looking forward to in 2017?

2017 is going to be a big year for me. I’m hoping to start grad school in the fall and I’m getting married in October, so there’s a lot to look forward to!

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Jared Edwards

Marketing Coordinator | Baird, Hampton & Brown, Inc.

Why did you join SMPS?

I joined to learn from and network with other marketing/business development professionals in the AEC industry. SMPS presents an amazing opportunity to obtain professional education, networking opportunites and other valuable resources to improve myself as a marketing professional which in turn improves the marketing capabilities of Baird, Hampton & Brown.

What have you gained from SMPS?

Insights to where our industry might be heading in the future, connections or relationships with other relevant industry professionals, education on the newest and latest software for Marketing in service industries to name a few.

Fun Fact About You / Hobby

I love the game of basketball. You will rarely find a time when I don’t know what’s going on with the NBA or college basketball. Also, you can often find me at a local gym playing pick up basketball games on the weekends around Fort Worth.

What is your top marketing tip?

Marketing is all about story-telling. So, tell a good one.

What is a marketing challenge that you overcame and how?

I have found that most of my challenges in marketing come from when I have to “fit a square peg into a round hole,” if you will. The key to overcoming these challenges is thinking of all the possible solutions and then combining some of those solutions. There’s never a perfect answer in those situations until you create one.

What is your personal professional goal for this year?

My goal is to become a plugged in member with SMPS Fort Worth. Also, I want to grow my Adobe Creative Cloud skillset by either learning Illustrator, Photoshop or both.

What was the best tip anyone ever gave you regarding your profession?

The more you look to help your team succeed, the more you will succeed.

Additional information

My wife and I will be expecting our first child and daughter, Aera, in March. I’m very excited for her arrival. Aubree and I keep ourselves busy in the meantime through being plugged in at Watermark Community Church in Fort Worth.
