Why did you join SMPS?

A friend in the industry recommended that I join. I’d jump off a cliff for her, but this was much easier.

What have you gained from SMPS?

Contacts and friends, resources and training opportunities.

Fun Fact About You / Hobby

I am a volunteer sexual assault victim’s advocate at the Women’s Center. Also, recently retired from the board of Lena Pope where I served for 23 years.

What is your top marketing tip?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Listen well. Be gracious.

What is a marketing challenge that you overcame and how?

There’s too many to describe, but marketing the firm on InstaGram through observing and doing, paying attention to what works or doesn’t and asking questions.

What is your personal professional goal for next year?

To hire more staff and spend more time working on business development.

What was the best tip anyone ever gave you regarding your profession?

Take advatange of opportunities to meet and get to know people. Marketing is about connecting and communicating.

Tell us something else about yourself!

I’m married to a very talented photographer (Gary Logan) who shoots for a lot of SMPS member companies and have two daughters. One just graduated from college this week!

Why did you join SMPS?

When I first entered the industry in 2013, my boss at the time encouraged me to become a member and volunteer on a committee. I’ll be forever grateful for the introduction to SMPS.

What have you gained from SMPS?

Through my involvement with SMPS, I have been introduced to professionals who have become mentors to me. I have also learned leadership and decision making skills that I would not have had the opportunity to learn enywhere else.  

Fun Fact About You / Hobby

I’m from Utila, Honduras and I’m a certified SCUBA diver.

What is your top marketing tip?

Surround yourself with people you admire who support and inspire you – personally and professionally. I read a quote a few years back that really resonated with me: “Moral improvement occurs most reliably when the heart is warmed, when we come into contact with people we admire, and love and we consciously and unconsciously bend our lives to mimic theirs.” ― David Brooks, The Road to Character

What is a marketing challenge that you overcame and how?

Stepping out of my comfort zone by choosing courage over comfort. (Thanks Brene Brown!)

What is your personal professional goal for next year?

Become a CPSM….and make it through this pandemic with what is left of my sanity. 

What was the best tip anyone ever gave you regarding your profession?

Find the time to get organized. It’s easy to be overwhelmed with work and always keep pushing tedious tasks to the backburner. However, the benefits of organization far outweigh the inconvenience and stress you go through to get it done initially.

SMPS Fort Worth is now accepting nominations for positions on the Board of Directors for the term beginning September 1, 2020.

Do you have ideas about what you would like to see from SMPS Fort Worth? Are you interested in making new contacts in the A|E|C industry? Are you curious about how others handle challenges?

Getting involved with SMPS on a BOARD or COMMITTEE level is a great way to grow your network and improve your skills!

SMPS Fort Worth is seeking qualified and energetic people who want to take a leadership role in advancing the Chapter’s education, networking, and business development opportunities. If you are interested in working with current and future leaders in the A|E|C industry, serving on the Board of Directors can help advance your career, bring visibility to your firm and create lasting connections with people across the industry.

Positions open to nominations include the following:

  • President-Elect (3-year commitment)
  • Secretary (2-year commitment)
  • Communications Director (1-year commitment)
  • Programs Director (1-year commitment)
  • Membership Director (1-year commitment)
  • Sponsorship Director (1-year commitment)

 

At this time, the Treasurer position will not be vacant until the 2021-2022 term.

Nominations are due by 5:00 PM Friday, May 22, 2020.

All nominees must:

  • Be a member of SMPS and affiliated with the Fort Worth Chapter
  • Not hold a current directorship with SMPS Headquarters
  • Not have served as SMPS National President

Nominations may be made by individuals (self-nominations are encouraged) using this form or by petition. Nominations for eligible candidates must be submitted to [email protected] by May 22, 2020. 

All Board members are required to participate in monthly Board meetings and are expected to conduct monthly meetings with their committees as necessary to successfully meet their respective goals.

SMPS Fort Worth Board Position Needed: Secretary

This is an ideal position for someone interested in getting more involved with the SMPS Fort Worth Chapter. No previous experience is required - simply the desire to get involved and help keep the Board moving forward through the end of the year. The next SMPS Board year begins in August 2020, so the Secretary will need to be available through those dates. 

The Secretary serves as the recorder for the Chapter and ensures minutes are taken, recorded, and distributed at all Board and executive Committee meetings. The Secretary is responsible for the Chapter’s bylaws.  The Secretary also serves on the executive Committee of the Chapter.

Secretary Tasks:

  • Attend all Board meetings (once a month)
  • Prepare/distribute minutes for each Board meeting within one week of meeting
  • Develop Board meeting agenda with input from President and distribute Monday before each meeting
  • Maintain document with “lessons learned” from past events; include information in meeting minutes also
  • Maintain/distribute Board and Committee contact list
  • Maintain archives
  • Attends SMPS national conference, if able

2019-2020 SMPS Fort Worth Board of Directors

SMPS Fort Worth is excited to announce our new Board of Directors for 2019-2020.

The new board includes ten members of SMPS Fort Worth, all of whom represent and help the organization in meeting its mission of being the primary resource for education, team building and strategic and marketing information for SMPS members and others involved in the built environment.

The Board is dedicating this year to engaging our membership in participating in new and effective ways. SMPS Fort Worth just celebrated our 10th anniversary and is looking forward to unveiling new programs and special events in the upcoming year to commemorate our decade of existence.
