Different Storms, Same Boat: Session Two

The Transformation of AEC Marketing Over the Last Decade

September 23 | 11:30am - 1:00pm

Ten years ago, the world was a different place. We didn’t have a pandemic, but we did encounter a world-changing recession. Many cell phones still looked like candy bars, but smartphones were becoming business staples. Social media was quickly becoming more than a personal scrapbook as its marketing potential was realized, and AEC project owners were testing the waters of online SOQ submissions.

Ten years ago, the newly formed SMPS Fort Worth chapter welcomed its first members. We kicked off our first season with six hot summer sessions guiding professionals on the path to success. This summer, we’re bringing back panelists from that dynamite Summer School series for two virtual lunchtime sessions. Join us as we dig into what’s changed, what’s stayed the same, and how you can thrive in uncertain times.

Chad Schieber will tackle strategy and communication, outlining a roadmap to company success. Rachel Marker will remind us of our most powerful tool and how to use it, while Cindy Milrany will address the finer, oft-overlooked points of leadership development.

  • Creating and Communicating a Strategic Framework | Chad Schieber
  • Relationship-Based Business Development in a Down Economy | Rachel Marker
  • Leadership Development | Cindy Milrany

Chad Schieber

Chad Schieber is the Chief Marketing Officer for The Beck Group. He leads marketing, business development, and sales strategy. He has held a range of positions at the firm, working in client services and marketing for over ten years. Before that, Chad worked for Peter Beck, the firm’s executive director, and was staffed on-site on construction and development projects. He also worked in Beck’s estimating department and as the firm’s internet strategist. Chad earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1996 and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2001, which he completed while working at Beck.

He is an alumni of Leadership Dallas and served on its alumni board for two years. Members of Leadership Dallas learn the challenges and issues facing the business community. The organization builds confidence and motivation, allowing its members to become actively involved in positive change for the greater Dallas area.

Chad is an active member of The Real Estate Council (TREC). He is a graduate of TREC’s Associate Leadership Class, which raised over $50,000 and orchestrated a renovation of a women’s facility in Dallas. He previously served on TREC’s Foundation Board and Technical Assistance Committee and is now a member of the Community Fund Board.

Family is important to Chad. He and his wife, Laura, are parents to 13-year-old twin boys and a 12-year-old daughter. One of his sons is autistic, which changed the way he and his wife approach others and their lives. Chad is a typical “Type A” personality but having a son with autism has taught him about patience and empathy for others.
